About ForensicMark
A forensic watermarking API built for developers and creators — helping you prove ownership, detect leaks, and comply with the EU AI Act.
What we do
ForensicMark is an API that embeds invisible forensic watermarks into images and attaches C2PA cryptographic content credentials. You upload an image, we return a watermarked copy with a manifest proving its origin — in a single REST call.
The invisible watermark is imperceptible to the human eye but detectable by our API even after the image has been compressed, resized, cropped, screenshotted, or re-shared on social media. The C2PA manifest is a standardized cryptographic signature recognized by Adobe, Microsoft, and the Content Authenticity Initiative.
Together, the two layers give you proof of ownership that survives both lossy transforms (neural watermark) and intact sharing (C2PA). Use either, or both.
Why we built it
Two things collided at the same time: the explosion of AI-generated imagery and the EU AI Act.
Article 50 of the EU AI Act requires that AI systems capable of generating content mark that content in a machine-readable way, so it can be identified as AI-generated. The regulation applies to any provider serving EU users — which is most of the internet. It came into force in stages through 2025 and 2026.
At the same time, AI image generation became cheap enough that millions of images are now generated every day. Stock photo agencies, media companies, creators, and enterprises all needed a way to watermark content at generation time, track where it goes, and prove they complied with the regulation.
The existing solutions were either locked to specific AI vendors (Google's SynthID), enterprise-only with no self-serve access (IMATAG), or lacking C2PA support. We built ForensicMark to be an API-first, developer-friendly solution that works with any image source, includes C2PA out of the box, and has a free tier anyone can try without a sales call.
Our technology
Neural watermarking
ForensicMark uses a neural encoder-decoder architecture trained to embed a payload into the high-frequency components of an image in a way that is perceptually invisible. The decoder is trained against an augmentation pipeline that simulates JPEG compression, resizing, cropping, rotation, color jitter, and screenshot re-capture. The result: a watermark that survives real-world abuse that defeats classic DWT/DCT methods.
C2PA content credentials
The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) specification defines a cryptographic manifest format for recording the origin and edit history of digital content. A C2PA-signed image carries a tamper-evident manifest that browsers, content platforms, and verification tools can inspect. ForensicMark can attach a C2PA manifest during the watermark embed step, or separately via the C2PA sign tool.
MCP native
ForensicMark ships a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. That means the watermarking and detection endpoints are directly callable from AI agents built on Claude, GPT-4, and other LLMs — without custom tool wrappers. Teams building AI-native content pipelines can integrate watermarking at the agent layer.
Partnership
Detection is only the first step. When a watermarked image is found being used without authorization, you need to be able to act on it.
ForensicMark partners with CopyrightShark to offer DMCA takedown services for watermarked assets. When detection confirms a match, CopyrightShark can file a DMCA notice on your behalf, covering hosting providers, social platforms, and search engines. The watermark serves as evidence; CopyrightShark handles the enforcement.
